As a result of investigative operations carried out by the Ministry of
National Security of Azerbaijan jointly with the Attorney General's
Office, four citizens of Azerbaijan have been arrested. They are
suspected of carrying out activities against the Republic of
Azerbaijan, providing assistance to a foreign state and its
representatives, as well as in organizing unrest in the country,
disrupting public security and calling upon people to rebel, a joint
statement made by the National Security Ministry and Prosecutor
General of Azerbaijan informs.

One of the detainees has been receiving financial support from the
Iranian Cultural Center in Baku, established and headed by the radical
religious group Jafari. Members of the group advocated religious
radicalism and distributed leaflets among the faithful calling for
religious strife.

The members of the radical religious group Jafari had close ties with
members of the Iranian Cultural Center in Baku, as well as with the
radical Shi'ite communities and associations operating in Azerbaijan,
including their leaders.
