Iran confirms country's focus on maintaining security in Caucasus

On Thursday, Iran's acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani and his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan had a telephone conversation. This was stated in a message posted on the website of the Iranian Foreign Ministry on May 30.

During the conversation, the Iranian minister noted the country's readiness to implement all the agreements that had been reached by President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, who died on May 19.

"Iran [remains] committed to playing an effective role in maintaining security and stability in the Caucasus",

 

Ali Bagheri Kani said.

He also expressed the readiness of the Islamic Republic to provide assistance to those affected by severe flooding in Armenia, where hundreds of houses were flooded after two rivers overflowed their banks.

In turn, the Armenian minister emphasized the importance of Iran in strengthening peace in the South Caucasus. In addition to this, he positively assessed the interaction with Iran in the implementation of infrastructure projects in Armenia.
