Day of Remembrance and Sorrow commemorated in Russia and CIS states

The annual ceremony, which commemorates the start of the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War, was held in Russia and other former USSR states.
Russian President Vladimir Putin attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Red Square to mark the 83rd anniversary of the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union.
The ceremony was attended by army and WWII veterans, as well as Russian senior military commanders. It was followed by a minute of silence in honor of those who died for Victory and a march by the guard of honor.
