More than 600 houses were flooded in the settlement of Voykovo in the Oktyabrsky District in Grozny, as a local dam broke on August 27. 2,500 people were evacuated from the danger zone, RIA Novosti reports.

"The emergency services saved about twenty people who stayed on the roofs of their houses and trees. No one was killed or injured. We believe that it's now all over," the deputy head of the Emergency Ministry's office in Chechnya, Ruslan Abazov, said.

The head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, visited the site of the tragedy and ordered all necessary measures to be taken to help the people.
