Turkmenia is beginning construction of a pipeline "East-West" with
total capacity of 30 billion cubic meters a year. This will be an
internal pipeline 1000 kilometers in length, which will link gas
deposits in the east of the country with the Caspian Sea shore, where
Caspian and Transcaspian pipelines will be constructed.
The national companies "Turkmengas" and "Turkmennebitgazgurlushik"
will draw up plans for and execute construction of a pipeline "East
West". Construction will start in June 2010 and is expected to be
completed in 2015.
Negotiations on the project with the Russian company "Gazprom" started
in 2008. In March 2009 Ashkhabad carried out an international tender
on construction of the pipeline, but the results of thishave not been
announced yet.
