Russia confirms launch of Bushehr nuclear power plant on September 12
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaSpokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Lukashevich confirmed in Moscow that the nuclear power plant in Bushehr will be launched on September 12, RIA Novosti reports.
The energy block of Bushehr was synchronized with the electric network with a power of 65 MW on September 5. The total output will reach 1,000 MW.
Construction of the nuclear power plant in Bushehr was started by Kraftwerk Union A.G. (Siemens/KWU, Germany) in 1974. Russia and Iran signed a deal on construction of the plant on August 25, 1992, a contract for conclusion of construction of the first block was signed in January 1995. Technological equipment was shipped in 2001.
The IAEA inspected the power plant on August 21, 2010 when the first portion of nuclear fuel was loaded. The energy block was launched at minimal output on May 8, 2011.
