The meeting between Russian and U.S. Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska reset the high-level U.S.-Russia dialogue mechanism and laid the foundation for subsequent negotiations on the Ukrainian crisis, according to the Chinese newspaper Global Times.

"The significance of this diplomatic effort lies in its restart of the high-level U.S.-Russia dialogue mechanism, laying a foundation for subsequent negotiations," Global Times reported.

The article also reads that the summit reflected a shared willingness to cooperate in managing this regional crisis, as well as eased global concerns that the conflict could further escalate or spiral into a direct confrontation between the world's two nuclear powers.

The meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump took place at a military base in Alaska on August 15. The meeting lasted over three hours, with the two leaders first holding a one-on-one conversation in a car on their way to the venue of the talks.
