EU to announce new sanctions against Russia on Monday

A new sanctions package targeting Russia will be announced on September 15, Acting French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced on Friday.

"On Monday, the European Union will present a new sanctions package — the first since Donald Trump's return to the White House to be directly coordinated with him",

Jean-Noël Barrot said.

Earlier reports indicated that EU leaders persuaded the U.S. president that Russia must be forced to begin negotiations on a Ukrainian settlement due to the introduction of new restrictive measures against Moscow.

 

The EU is currently considering quotas for Schengen visas issued to Russian tourists, alongside potential increases in processing times and consular fees.
