One worker was killed and four others were injured on October 15 after an explosion occurred in the engine room of a ship under maintenance at a shipyard in Istanbul's Tuzla district, local authorities said.

The blast was trigged by the rupture of a carbon dioxide cylinder during maintenance works at the private shipyard, according to a statement issued by the Istanbul governor's office.

Following the explosion, health, police, fire, and disaster management teams were dispatched to the scene. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

Tuzla, located on Istanbul's Asian side, hosts one of Türkiye's largest shipyard zones.
