A conference on stability and peace in Somalia has taken place in Istanbul.
Somalia is at the centre of the world community's attention because of
problems with piracy and the civil war. There was an appeal to the world
community not to leave the country to the mercy of fate, Turkish TV channel TRT reports.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted it is necessary to stop the civil war in Somalia.

At the end of the conference the Istanbul Declaration was published, an appeal to Somalia's neighbours to help Somalia resolve its problems and to the world community to take more responsibility. It also addresses the Somali nation, that they are not alone.
