Trump holds meeting with Syrian President at White House

US President Donald Trump is meeting Syrian Interim President Ahmed al-Shara'a at the White House, marking the first such visit by a Syrian leader, Reuters reports.

The discussions are expected to focus on security guarantees for Damascus and potential relief from US sanctions imposed under the 2019 Caesar Act – the Syria Civilian Protection Act.

Al-Shara'a seeks the removal of restrictions targeting entities supporting Bashar al-Assad's government.
