Knowledge Day marked in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan is marking Knowledge Day today. About 124,274 pupils will start studies in first grade. There were 120,420 first-graders in the 2010/2011 year and 118,947 in the 2009/2010 year.

33,464 pupils will enter first grade in Baku this year. There were 32,812 last year. Azerbaijani schools welcome children aged 6 on September 15. Talented children may enter at the age of 6 from September 15 to late October, as an exception.

A commission at the Education Ministry operates from August 10 to September to consider entrance of children aged 6 in November. About 1.335 million children have school lessons in Azerbaijan. There are about 17,000 students at higher education centers. 29,332 students have started their first academic year at higher education centers in Azerbaijan this year.
