Representatives of the EU member-countries approved the plan to get rid of buying all kinds of Russian gas, the Danish presidency in the EU Council said.

"European Union countries' ambassadors on Wednesday greenlit the bloc's plan to phase out Russian gas imports by late 2027," the presidency said.

To become effective, the decision must be approved by the EU Council at the ministerial level by the end of this December.

As of October, 2025, Russia accounted for 12% of EU gas imports.
