Rikoti Highway сompleted in Georgia

The highway through the Rikoti Pass will open tomorrow in Georgia. Construction work on the route is fully finished, according to the Georgian Ministry of Infrastructure. The highway will open to traffic at 12:00 local time (11:00 Moscow time) on Sunday.

The new highway is 52 km long and four lanes wide.

The engineering complex includes 51 tunnels and 97 bridges. The longest tunnel spans 1,800 meters, while the longest bridge extends 1,362 meters.

 

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze called the opening of the highway a historic event and the project of the century.

"The new section of the expressway will connect regions, people, and economic centers much more quickly. Naturally, all of this will give new impetus to the development of our country",

Irakli Kobakhidze said.

Let us remind you that the road through the Rikoti Pass is part of the East-West Highway, or the European Transit Road E-60. It also connects western and eastern Georgia.
