On Sunday the Russian North Caucasian republic of Chechnya celebrates Women's Day, RIA Novosti reports.

On Women's Day Chechen men wear national costumes and present their women with flowers.

Chechen Women's Day was established three years ago by order of the head of the republic, Ramzan Kadyrov. It's celebrated on the third Sunday of September. The holiday was intended to commemorate the tragic deaths of Chechen girls kidnapped by Russian soldiers in 1819.
