Media: US reaches agreement with Hamas on disarmament

The United States has reached an agreement with Hamas on the group's demilitarization, which requires the Palestinian faction to lay down its arms and provide maps of its tunnel network beneath the Gaza Strip, Sky News reports. As part of the deal, Hamas is to transform into a political party.

"Political and military leaders wishing to leave the Gaza Strip will be able to do so without risk. The US will insist that Israel guarantees that no action will be taken against them",

a Sky News source reported.

Washington is also addressing the future of the organization's members in the postwar period. Plans are being made for some Hamas members to gain employment within the new Gaza administration's security forces, following a vetting process conducted by Israel and the USA.

Some of these proposals are reportedly facing criticism from Israeli officials. Discussions are ongoing regarding the preservation of Hamas as a political entity.
