The Turkish and Iranian presidents, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Masoud Pezeshkian, held a phone conversation on Thursday, January 22, to discuss bilateral relations and recent regional developments.

During the call, Erdoğan stated that Türkiye is closely monitoring the situation in Iran, emphasizing that peace and stability in the neighboring country are of great importance to Ankara.

"Türkiye has never supported foreign intervention in Iran",

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said.

He added that resolving existing issues and preventing further escalation in the region aligns with Türkiye's interests.

The call took place against the backdrop of ongoing protests in Iran, which began in late 2025 following a sharp depreciation of the national currency and high inflation. According to various reports, the unrest has resulted in significant casualties in recent weeks.
