US base in Erbil attacked - media

According to the Fars news agency, a pro-Iranian group in Iraq launched an attack on a US base located in Erbil.

"A plume of smoke rose from the US base in Erbil, Iraq",

Fars reported.

Powerful explosions had been reported in the city earlier.

The attack follows a series of US and Israeli strikes against Iran, which resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, among others. Iran has declared a 40-day mourning period.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced the imminent launch of a major military operation against Israel and US bases in the region, following the previous day's attacks.
