Since the start of deliveries along the railway route through Azerbaijan, 23,500 tons of Russian grain have been shipped to Armenia.

Armenia's Ministry of Economy has disclosed the volume of Russian grain that entered the country via Azerbaijan over the past five months.

Between November and March, the republic imported 23,500 tons of grain from Russia.

The ministry noted that in the previous year, grain exports to Armenia came from Russia (5,600 tons) and Kazakhstan (1,000 tons). This year, all shipments are coming from Russia, with 17,000 tons already arrived in the first three months, mostly wheat.

Deliveries are being carried out along a railway route passing through Azerbaijan (on the Ganja-Boyuk Kesik section) to Georgia, and then via Gardabani-Tbilisi to the Armenian-Georgian border (Sadakhlo-Ayrum).

According to the Armenian Ministry of Economy, the railway route via Azerbaijan and Georgia is a competitive alternative to road shipments via the Upper Lars border crossing. The Armenian government views the new route as a long-term project, Sputnik Armenia reported.

Today, grain will also be shipped to Armenia in transit through the territory of Azerbaijan. It is planned to dispatch 4 cars from the Bilajari railway station of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.
