Turkey ready to begin hydrocarbon exploration in Northern Cyprus

Turkish research vessel Piri Reis has arrived to its destination on
the shelf of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to begin the work
on the exploration of hydrocarbons, Trend reports referring to the
agency "Anadolu ".

When Nicosia started works on the the shelf of the divided island,
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey would
start oil and gas exploration in the "exclusive economic zone" of
North Cyprus within a week.

On Wednesday, the Turkish government and the president of Northern
Cyprus Dervis Eroglu signed in New York  a  border agreement for
offshore exploration and production of oil and gas. At the same time
Erdogan warned of sanctions against companies cooperating with the
Republic of Cyprus (Greek) in the development of the shelf.
