EU talks energy with Turkmenistan

The diplomat was welcomed at the State Agency for Management and Use of Natural Resources at the Turkmen President.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso met in New York within the framework of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly. Turkmenistan noted its devotion to developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Europe and a dialogue with all states and largest international organizations.
Some of the most advanced spheres of Turkmen-EU cooperation are trade-economic, humanitarian spheres and investments.
Turkmenistan agreed to hold talks on the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (under the Caspian Sea from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan) to supply Europe with gas. The route could become part of the Nabucco project. Brussels hopes that realization of the project would diversify sources of gas consumers, most of which are covered by Russia. Brussels has recently approved EU talks on the TAP project with Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.
