The US Treasury intends to expand secondary sanctions against companies and states that maintain economic ties with Iran, as part of a strategy to increase pressure on Tehran, Reuters reported.

The move is intended to influence governments, pushing them to reduce their economic engagement with Iran.

Washington has reportedly dubbed the pressure strategy "Economic D‑Day," drawing a parallel to the Allied landings in Normandy in 1944.

China, which continues trade with Tehran, could face US economic pressure.

Beijing has already called the sanctions policy unacceptable.
