Russian Union of Writers gifts Yerevan Pushkin monument

The Russian Union of Writers has presented Yerevan with a monument of writer Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, head of Rossotrudnichestvo, Russian Ambassador to Armenia, Victor Krivopuskov, said, News Armenia reports.


Krivopuskov attended a press conference as part of the Days of Russian Language in Armenia. He noted that they would visit the Pushkinsky Gorge in Armenia, where a memorial to Pushkin is, a spot where Pushkin had seen an araba cart carrying the body of A. S. Griboyedov (Gargar Village of the Lori Region), a Russian diplomat killed in Tehran.


The Pushkinsky Gorge is between Vanadzor and Stepanavan. It used to be called the Bzovdalsky Gorge. Pushkin had a meeting there in June 1829.


The Central Avenue of Mashtots in Yerevan will see the opening of a book store called Dom Rosskoy Knigi on October 7. Moscow will open a store of Armenian literature on Basmannaya Street.


Armenia is holding Days of the Russian Language on October 3-9, to mark the 20th anniversary of the CIS, under the patronage of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. The days are annual since 2007. They are supported by the Armenian Ministry of Culture and the Russian Society for Friendship and Cooperation with Armenia.
