Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokesman Alexander Lukashevich confirms: Russia always had and will continue to play the most active role in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

As for steps being undertaken right now, the official pointed out that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is personally mediating the dialog between Baku and Yerevan.

Another consultation on the state of affairs in the region took place in the OSCE headquarters. VK has already informed its readers of its outcome. Bothe co-chairs and conflict parties recognize the exceptional contribution of Russia into the peace process. Russian President personally took part in a number of meetings and worked out conflict settlement principles. Of course, the process isn’t swift, but the meeting in Kazan demonstrated that a peaceful solution is possible provided both sides have enough political will.

As for the four OSCE Security Council resolutions touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict that were disregarded by Armenia, the Foreign Ministry representative pointed out that they are recommendations, not orders.

Alexander Lukashevich also pointed out that Russia is more interested in peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict than other OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
