EU to join Saudi-led coalition against Houthis

The EU plans to join the Saudi‑led coalition against Yemen's Houthis as an observer, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said on arrival at a meeting of EU defence ministers.

"The EU is considering joining the Saudi-led coalition as an observer",

Kallas said.

According to Kallas, Brussels insists on the immediate unblocking of the Bab el‑Mandeb Strait, saying this will allow the EU to contribute to countering the Houthis.
