The Turkish Parliament has prolonged operations in Northern Iraq, RIA Novosti reports.

The initiative was proposed by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who filed it in late September.
The Turkish Parliament has allowed the government to organize transborder operations since 2007. Turkey is carrying out air raids against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.

The party has been striving for an independent Kurdistan since 1984. The war with Turkey has resulted in deaths of over 40,000 people.

The latest ground operation in Northern Iraq was held in early 2009. Turkey started air raids in August-September, killing over 300 separatists.

The Turkish infantry is also clearing border areas in south-eastern parts of the state.
