Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s ruling party won the parliamentary polls with 39.18% of the vote, the State Electoral Commission reported after processing 100% of the ballot papers.

Yaroslaw Kaczynski’s Law and Justice Party received 29.98% of the vote, Palikot’s Movement – 10%, the Polish People’s Party of Vice-Premier Waldemar Pawlak – 8.36% and the Democratic Left Alliance – 8.24%. The PSL and Tusk’s party announced the formation of a coalition. This means that Tusk will probably remain prime minister for another 4 years.

Voter turnout was 48.9%.

Political analyst Yevgeny Minchenko, Director of the International Institute for Political Expertise, commented on the election results and their influence on relations between Russia, Poland and the European Union to Vestnik Kavkaza. The expert said that relations will remain balanced.

There was a risk that Kaczynski would win the elections, starting a cold political war with Russia. But Polish voters were realistic enough to avoid radical steps.
