Former Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi has been captured by rebels in Sirte, Al-Jazeera reports. He is reported to have been injured in both legs.

Protests in Libya started in mid-February, demanding Gaddafi, who had been at power for over 40 years, to resign. Six months of fights resulted in rebels taking control of the country. Libyan capital, Tripoli, was occupied in late August with support of NATO forces. Gaddafi’s location was unknown. His family: wife Safia, daughter Aisha and sons Mohammad and Hannibal escaped to Algiers.

Libyan rebels formed the National Transitional Council in Benghazi in February. It has been recognized as a legal power by about 60 states.
