Turkish aviation hits Kurdish militants
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe Turkish aviation carried out mass air strikes on bases of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in North Iraq this morning, RIA Novosti reports.
Raids took place in the Avashin and Khavtanin Districts on the border territory. F-16s were mobilized for the operation, as well as helicopters from Malatya, RIA Novosti reports.
The ground operation against terrorist of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) was organized in response for murder of 24 and injury of 18 Turkish servicemen in Hakkyari Province near Iraq on October 19. It is held in five districts with 10,000 servicemen involved.
Former Commander of the ground operation in North Iraq General Nejati Ozgen said that they need 50,000 people to achieve victory over the militants. Militant camps are located in Zap and Khakurk Districts, 20-30 km away from the Turkish border.
22 battalions, 10,000-12,000 servicemen are involved.
