A joint session of the committees for social policy and legal policy and state construction of the Azerbaijani Parliament have been discussing a raise of minimal age requirement for marriage to 18 today, 1news.az reports.

Heads of the parliamentary committees Khady Rajabli and Ali Guseynli have been debating the issue.

The current marriage age for men starts at 18 and women – 17. There are reasons for young people to marry at a younger age. One of them is if a girl is pregnant before reaching the age of 18, another is if a couple’s parents are in a grave medical condition, Rajabli said.
