The Tbilisi City Court dismissed a petition to suspend the decree of
Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, according to which billionaire
Bidzina Ivanishvili and his wife lost their Georgian citizenship, one of the lawyers of the businessman, Levan Chkheidze, said today News-Georgia
reports.
According to the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, the grounds for depriving them
of their citizenship was the fact that Ivanishvili obtained French citizenship.
As previously stated by the personal lawyer of Ivanishvili, Eka Beselia, a
decree suspending his Georgian citizenship was signed on October 11. The
Ministry of Justice of Georgia explained that Georgian citizenship, which
Ivanishvili received on 22 July 2004, was suspended after it emerged that
he had became a citizen of France.
