President Nursultan Nazarbayev has signed a bill "On the ratification of
the protocol amending the agreement between the government of the republic
of Kazakhstan and the United States Government on ensuring the commercial
rail transit of special cargo through the territory of Kazakhstan in
connection with the US participation in efforts to stabilize and restore
the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan," Trend quotes the press service of the
President of Kazakhstan.

The purpose of the protocol is to add an additional checkpoint to the
already existing checkpoint on the border with Uzbekistan. An alternative
checkpoint, Beineu-Karakalpakiya, will be used for commercial rail transit of special cargo. The foreign ministry of Kazakhstan said that this
measure was necessary in order to locate the route further away from the
Kazakh-Uzbek border.
