Armenian Parliament discusses bills on lustration

The Armenian fraction "Heritage" has initiated talks on bills on lustration, amendments on regulation of the parliament, amendments to the laws on prosecution, the police, the Criminal Code and the National Security Information, Armenia Today reports.


The amendments to the law on lustration are to declassify people who worked for the Committee for State Security, intelligence services and investigators of the former USSR before the referendum on Armenian independence of September 21, 1991.


The initiative is to dismiss officials working for special services and prevent them from taking position in other structures. Voluntary resignation is welcomed.


The bills are to realize principles of legislature in regulating national security of Armenia, protection of the state and society, people and citizens, freedom and security from Soviet and foreign special services.


Development of the bills was carried out with account of experience in Lithuania, Poland, Georgia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Germany, Romania, Albania and Hungary.
