Results of first round of South Ossetian presidential polls, referendum

The Central Electoral Commission of South Ossetia has announced the final results of the first round of presidential polls and the referendum on the status of the Russian language. Anatoly Bibilov and Alla Jioyeva got the most votes. 24,404 people took part in the voting process, CEC Chairwoman Bella Pliyeva told Res.


The voting was as follows:


Anatoly Bibilov (Minister of Emergency Situations) – 6066 (24.86%)
Alla Jioyeva (former Minister of Education) - 6052 (24.8%)
Vadim Tskhovrebov (Director of Tskhinvali baking plant) - 2418 (9.9%)
Alan Cota (deputy head of Tskhinvali) - 2358 (9.66%)
Dmitry Tasoev (leader of the Social Democratic Party, unregistered in South Ossetia) - 2318 (9.5%)
George Kabisov (Chairman of the State Committee for Information, Communications and Mass Media) – 1859 (7.62%)
Vladimir Kelekhsaev (South Ossetian MP of 4th calling) - 1623 (6.65%)
Sergei Bitiev (Chief Bailiff of the Republic) - 815 (3.34%)
Soslan Tedety (SWAT commander of the Interior Ministry) - 275 (1.13%)
Alan Pliev (Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia) - 255 (1.05%)
Jemal Jigkaev (former Healthcare Minister) - 231 (0.95%)
Against all: 134 (0.55%).


Concerning the referendum, the CEC head said that 23,737 people voted. 19,797 voted for and 3,902 voted against.


The second round of voting will be held on November 27, 2011. Over 30% of the population needs to vote. The winner will be determined by the majority of vote.
