Samvel Nikoyan to become Acting Speaker of Armenian Parliament

The Armenian Speaker of Parliament Ovik Abramyan, confirmed his resignation today, according to the 20th article of the Regulation of the National Assembly (Parliament). His resignation note was handed in on November 14. He explained that he plans to supervise the electoral headquarters of the Armenian Republican Party for the parliamentary polls in 2012.

Samvel Nikoyan, Vice-Speaker and member of the Republican Party, will be the Acting Speaker of Parliament. He received 104 votes for the appointment.

The party will elect the new speaker in the near future. The Armenian Republican Party has 63 mandates in the 131-seat parliament. The party is headed by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. The party holds positions of
