Abkhazia says resolution of European Parliament of November 17 was preconceived
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaAbkhazia has described the resolution of the European Parliament of November 17 on negotiations of EU and Georgian association as preconceived and unilateral. It also pointed out that there were no attempts to take the opinions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia into account, ITAR-TASS reports.
The Abkhaz Foreign Ministry also noted that Russian armed forces are allowed to stay on the territories of the two republics according to deals signed. The ministry also believes that the urge for Russia to cancel recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia is interference in the internal affairs of states.
There will be no international observers in Abkhazia until the EU becomes impartial towards all sides of the conflict. Abkhazia has proven itself to be a free democratic European state, based on rule of law and respect for human rights. It has been recognized by six UN members. The process of further recognition cannot be stopped, the Foreign Ministry emphasizes.
The European Parliament passed a resolution on EU-Georgian association talks on November 17. The document states the territorial unity of Georgia and urges Russia to cancel recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Both republics were called occupied territories. The European Parliament demands Russia to give an EU monitoring mission full access to Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
