Moscow hosts All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress

Moscow is hosting the Third All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress. It will be opened by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, administration head Ramiz Mehtiyev and the head of the section for interregional and cultural ties of the Russian president, Sergey Vinokurov.


Vestnik Kavkaza reported earlier that about 130 delegates from 72 Russian regions will arrive. The conference will also see scientists, businessmen, public figures and media officials.


A report on past activities will be presented with an exchange of views on amendments to the charter, the prospects of the congress, its goals and improvements. Documents are expected to be passed.


The All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress was found in 2000 with the support of Azerbaijani National Leader Heydar Aliyev. It has been promoting Azerbaijani consolidation in Russia, protection of rights and freedom, promotion of culture and real information.


Ramiz Mehtiyev and his Russian counterpart Sergey Naryshkin discussed bilateral relations and international problems. They noted the good ties between Russian and Azerbaijani presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Ilham Aliyev. Mehtiyev underlined that the two states have no unresolved problems.

Naryshkin underlined the positive effect of Azerbaijan as member of the UN Security Council.
