Armenian government discusses new economic policy

A discussion on elaborating a new policy to develop Armenia’s economy took place on Friday, headed by the Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, News.am reports. Representatives of World Bank, Parliament and Government participated.

“Armenia needs to have a new economic project with its main directions, priorities and actions. Armenia had such a project of steady development years ago. However, it was subjected to changes as a result of world crisis,” the prime minister said.

“Armenia registered increase during the last 20 years. It needs to use all privileges and sources, human resources and potential of economic growth to promote further development,” World Bank Regional Director for the South Caucasus Asad Alam said adding that flexible policy should be developed. “Armenia’s vision for future should be set. Even if part of the program is realized, it would be a huge step,” said Alam.

The prime minister thanked Alam for his participation in the discussion, sharing international experience and presenting new ideas for Armenia’s economic future.
