Two candidates proposed as speaker of Armenian parliament

Two candidates were proposed today for the post of the chairman of the National Assembly - vice Speaker Samvel Nikoyan from the ruling Republican Party of Armenian and Larisa Alaverdyan, a member of the opposition faction "Heritage," News–Armenia reports.


Nikoyan promised to be objective in his work and ensure the normal operation of Parliament, regardless of the political views of its members. He also said that he expects political debates to heat on the eve of the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

For its part, the deputy Alaverdyan said that the National Assembly must move beyond personal and group interests and protect national interests.

Elections will be held on Tuesday by secret ballot.
