Opposition party calls Russia's elections invalid

Russian opposition liberal party Yabloko said on Wednesday that the Sunday parliamentary elections were invalid, Eho Moskvy reports.

The founder of the party, Professor Grigory Yavlinsky says Yabloko will demand repeal of the official results of the voting and resignation of the head of the Central Election Committee, Vladimir Churov. Professor Yavlinsky also called upon opposition members of the newly elected parliament to resign showing their protest against fraud.

Representatives of Yabloko are also going to take part in the anti-government demonstration on Saturday. The demonstration is organized by the unregistered opposition group Solidarnost. One of the leaders of Solidarnost Ilya Yashin is currently under arrest as well as another opposition leader Alexey Navalny.
