South Caucasus conflicts progress achievable via Geneva talks, Minsk Group – OSCE chairman

Audronius Azubalis, OSCE Chairman and Lithuanian Foreign Minister, has underlined progress reached by the Council of Foreign Ministers in Vilnius and urged 56 OSCE member-states to count on solving the problems discussed at the meeting, Trend reports.


Azubalis emphasized the need to resolve old conflicts in the region. This includes the Trans-Dniester conflict and conflicts in the South Caucasus. They may be resolved within the Geneva discussions and the OSCE Minsk Group.


The OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers decided to improve early detection and action to prevent conflicts and improvement of negotiation processes and mediation in post-conflict restoration. The decisions were passed on transnational threats, women’s rights in the economic sector, improvement of transport dialogue, the OSCE role in realizing resolution 1540 of the UN Security Council, use of weapons and ammunition, the forum of cooperation and security. A declaration against all forms of human trafficking was approved.
