Tskhinvali protest ends
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaTeatralnaya Square in Tskhinvali, where hundreds of protesters had been gathering to support ex-candidate for president of South Ossetia Alla Jioyeva, has now emptied, Interfax reports.
Tents, heating and wood have been removed and the street is being cleaned.
Jioyeva’s supporters started protests about two weeks ago after her victory in the presidential polls had been nullified. Jioyeva and President Eduard Kokoity resolved their conflict on Friday with the mediation of a representative of the Russian Presidential Administration, Sergey Vinokurov.
Kokoity announced his resignation the next day, passing authority to Prime Minister Vadim Brovtsev. Jioyeva was permitted to take part in the new presidential polls on March 25, 2012.
