Doha hosts summit of Alliance of Civilizations

The capital of Qatar, Doha, is hosting a summit of the Alliance of Civilizations with 1,000 people attending, TRT Russian reports.


The summit will stress on events in the Middle East and the Arab Spring. Turkey will be represented by Vice-Premier Besir Atalay.


The Alliance of Civilizations was formed by Turkey and Spain. Its summit is held to settle conflicts between cultures and civilizations and for development of tolerance, dialogue and cooperation.


The main topic for discussions is the inter-cultural dialogue for support of development. This includes discussions of inter-cultural societies, the role of women in development, the role of clergy in keeping peace and the role of media in understanding cultural minorities.


Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is unable to attend the summit due to his health problems. He sent a video speech where he mentioned the problem of Palestine. The summit has representatives of over 130 states.
