Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has told President Obama
that Israel's raid violated international practice and was an unlawful
act. Conducting an intense round of diplomacy in the wake of the
Israeli raid on Gaza-bound aid vessels, Erdogan spoke to US President
Barack Obama by telephone. "Israel should promptly release the aid
vessels and the blockade on Gaza should be lifted immediately,"- he
said.
The Turkish Premier also noted that the Jewish state is about to lose
its sole friend in the region, and urged Israel to send the deceased
and the injured to Turkey immediately, and release detained
participants in the "Freedom Flotilla".
For his part, Barack Obama said the US is making efforts to ensure a
solution that meets international law and Turkey's expectations. The
US President also touched upon the importance of finding better ways
to provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza without jeopardizing
Israel's security.
