Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin today condemned the opposition, saying it is financed by foreign governments. He also said that the people who took part in Saturday's opposition rally in Moscow were paid, Ekho Moskvy reports.

The massive demonstration held on December 10th in order to show the public's attitude to the controversial parliamentary elections gathered from 50 to 100 thousand people and was attended by prominent politicians and public figures.

The former prime minister and leader of the opposition People's Freedom Party, Mikhail Kasyanov, says Putin's remarks show that he doesn't understand the processes taking place in today's Russia.

Today Putin also condemned Kasyanov, saying he was an 'unsuccessful' prime minister.
