Turkey must recognize Armenian Genocide as historic fact – French Minister

French Minister for European Affairs Jean Leonetti called on Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide as a historical fact, News.am reports on Wednesday.

He dismissed Ankara’s accusations saying France uses bill on the Genocide denial as a pre-election move.

“All nations should be sensible and courageous to face their own history. Almost 100 years have passed since the Armenian Genocide happened, those responsible for it died, and Turkey should just recognize the historical fact,” the Minister told French television and radio on Wednesday.

The Minister stressed if the bill had been introduced “urging the Armenian community to vote” opposition would not have supported it.  The bill is not focused on Turkey but all genocide perpetrators.
