Aliyev optimistic on Russia’s efforts to settle Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Ilham Aliyev discussed the situation in the Caucasus region and had bilateral talks today, RIA Novosti reports.

Medvedev noted the significance of the trilateral meeting with Armenian president to settle the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He believes that the dialogue is beneficial.

The Russian president considers cooperation in 2011 good.

Ilham Aliyev agreed that intensive relations help cooperate in all spheres. He added that the previous year showed positive indicators of trade turnover. The Azerbaijani leader thanked Medvedev for efforts in resolving the conflict and for supporting Azerbaijan as a temporary member of the UN Security Council. He expressed hope that Azerbaijan will fulfill expectations of 155 states voting for it in the upcoming two years.
