Russian, Abkhaz presidents visit border crossing post
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaRussian President Dmitry Medvedev has visited a crossing point on the Russian-Abkhaz border where a customs post will open on January 25. Medvedev met Abkhaz President Alexander Ankvab, RIA Novosti reports.
The new customs post will be tested in February. The office has been operating since 1992. It is located over River Psou. There have been major traffic jams in the area due to lack of queue areas.
Reconstruction of the “Adler” customs office started in 2005, increasing its area 12-fold. It has solar cells producing electricity and heating. It is expected to allow 1,500 vehicles to cross the border daily.
The local bridge will allow vehicles and pedestrians to pass. The old car bridge will be used reserve. Construction of the pedestrian crossing point will be concluded in 2012. An average of 35 people will cross it daily.
