The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, has ruled out the Western military alliance engaging in a military confrontation with Iran over its nuclear program, Press TV reports on Wednesday.

In an interview with the Italian-language La Repubblica newspaper on Tuesday, the NATO chief described political means as the most promising solution to the impasse over Iran's atomic program.

Rasmussen noted that he would choose sanctions for a military strike against Iran to stop its nuclear activities, stressing that NATO military intervention in the Middle East should be "completely” excluded.

The United States, Israel, and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program. Washington and Tel Aviv have repeatedly threatened Tehran with the "option" of a military strike against its atomic facilities.
