Azerbaijan prepares project to simplify mechanism of import fees

The State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan prepared a project to simplify the mechanism of fees for imports, 1news.az cites deputy head of the committee Asker Abdullayev as saying.

The project was introduced to the Cabinet. It lifts unjustified beneficial fees and gives clear rules for benefits and their terms.

Azerbaijan passed a bill replacing the multi-step system of customs fees with a three-step one, as demanded by the World Trade Organization.

The fees remain at 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 3%, 5%, 10% and 15%. The new classification with set three positions, 0%, 5% and 15%. Strategic raw materials and equipment will have a 0% fee. The same concerns goods with a fee of 0.5% (which is about 10-15% of total goods imported).
